Producers Livestock Marketing Association was established in April 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, during a challenging period for the country and the livestock industry. Amid the Great Depression, severe drought, and the Dust Bowl, a group of visionary livestock men with a capital of $12,933 formed a cooperative livestock marketing association.
The founding members included S.M. Jorgenen (Salina), Joseph T. Finlinson (Leamington), W.D. Beers (Salt Lake City), Sylvester Broadbent (Salt Lake City), T. Tracy Wright (Salt Lake City), J.A. Wright (Salt Lake City), Harold E. Davis (Vernal), Lincoln A. Stookey (Clover), Peter Clegg (Tooele), and I.H. Jacob (Salt Lake City). These ten men aimed to create better marketing opportunities for ranchers across the West by providing a centralized auction barn where buyers and sellers could sell livestock. This initiative boosted market prices, enabling ranchers to secure higher returns for their animals. Joe Jacobs served as the first general manager, with these men forming the initial board of directors.
Producers Livestock initially operated offices in North Salt Lake and Ogden, Utah. Over the years, we have expanded, with branches in every western state. Currently, we have branches in Greeley, CO; Salina, UT; Jerome, ID; Vale, OR; Madera, CA; Prescott, AZ; and Belle Fourche, SD.
Producers Livestock has continued to thrive throughout the years in this everchanging livestock industry. As a member-owned cooperative, we are committed to supporting our customers and the broader livestock community by continually enhancing marketing opportunities across the western United States. Today, we offer livestock marketing through sale barns, video auctions, and private treaty deals, along with a feeding and grazing program that provides financial services to ranchers.
